Dancing into Autumn at The Mill

Join us at The Mill Arts Centre this Autumn for an exciting season of dance for all the family!

We’re delighted to present The Rite of Spring (12th November) by award-winning choreographer Seeta Patel, as she reimagines the iconic ballet in the powerful classical Indian dance style Bharatanatyam. Discover a transformative retelling of this pagan folk story through intricate rhythmic footwork, expressive prowess, geometric and dynamic movements, delivered by world-class performers.

Dance enthusiasts can explore the performance further in our unique new course Talk About Dance (20th October & 6th November). Led by Seeta Patel and independent dance dramaturg Miranda Laurence, this will be a fun, discursive session giving an insight into the creative process of making The Rite of Spring and dance more generally.

If you’re curious about watching dance, but sometimes feel a bit stumped about how to process it or talk about it, why not join our new Dance Audience Club (12th November) – a bit like a Book Club for dance! This friendly, informal opportunity is perfect if you like to watch dance but don’t necessarily have anyone to go with; if you would like an opportunity to share your experiences of watching dance with other like-minded people; or if you are unsure about whether you like dance but are interested in giving it a go!

Come along and try your hand at the Indian classical dance style of Bharatanatyam in our Bharatanatyam Family Dance Workshop (27th October), led by Seeta Patel. Learning some basic elements of the dance style including hand gestures and rhythms, this will be a great chance to experience a beautiful and expressive art form. This intergenerational workshop will be fun for all the family!

Fun for all the family continues with Spy Monkey (13th November), a contemporary twist to a classic Indian tale from the Ramayana. Fusing digital streaming, workshops, games and live performances to excite and engage young audiences and adults alike, this family adventure is suitable for ages 4+.
