Radio Horton, the hospital, health and wellbeing radio station serving the Banbury area, is proud to announce its recent success at the National Hospital Radio Awards held in Winchester on Saturday, 13th April. The station clinched the Silver award in the Best Speech Package category, showcasing its commitment to delivering high-quality programming that resonates with listeners.

The accolade recognises Radio Horton’s outstanding coverage of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Staff Recognition Awards held in July 2023. The station’s dedicated team worked tirelessly to produce a compelling speech package that captured the essence of the event and highlighted the invaluable contributions of healthcare professionals within the trust.

Sam Smette, Chair of Radio Horton, expressed his gratitude and excitement about the award, stating, “Winning Silver in the Best Speech Package category is a tremendous honour for Radio Horton. It reflects the dedication and talent of our volunteers who continuously strive to deliver engaging content to our listeners. We are immensely proud of our team and grateful for the support of our community.”

The judges loved how this programme was put together, with a good selection of voices and stories, a real sense of celebration and community.

The National Hospital Radio Awards celebrate excellence in hospital radio broadcasting across the United Kingdom, recognising stations that demonstrate innovation, creativity, and professionalism in serving their local communities. Radio Horton‘s success underscores its position as a leading voice in hospital radio, providing entertainment, information, and support to patients, staff, and visitors at the Horton General Hospital and beyond.

As a volunteer-led organisation, Radio Horton relies on the passion and commitment of its team members to deliver diverse programming that reflects the interests and needs of its audience. The Silver Award serves as a testament to the station’s ongoing efforts to deliver meaningful content that uplifts and informs listeners during their hospital stay.

The station, which celebrates its sixtieth anniversary in July, remains committed to serving the community and looks forward to continuing its mission of delivering exceptional programming that entertains, informs, and enriches the lives of its listeners.
