This time tomorrow I will be in the air heading to Freetown, always assuming that I will have completed packing!! That may sound easy, but I’ve paid for an additional 23 kilos of luggage as I have so many donations to take with me.
I have just received a large donation of good quality second hand uniform from Tysoe primary school courtesy of the Perkins family. Also, donations from Oxford United (assorted kit), Evenley Cricket Club (polo shirts), Books & Ink (some books but no ink) and some corporate uniform from a company that has recently gone into liquidation.
Westminster Secondary School
I sent enough funds for them to prepare the foundations and produce a first batch of concrete blocks so that they will be ready to start the building when I arrive. They have made enough blocks for the entire building and after deciding the final layout we will start building on Wednesday – watch out for the rapid progress in my next Newsletter.
As you can see the foundation trenches have all been dug and they have already started to concrete the foundations and these will be completed today. The hostel will have 5 bedrooms for the staff who are currently travelling long distances to work, costing them 15% of their monthly wage. It will also have a smaller room for the school caretaker, a communal lounge and some washroom facilities.
