The Smeds & The Smoos

Get ready for an exciting time ahead at The Mill Arts Centre, with something for everyone! Kicking things off for the whole family, The Smeds and The Smoos (11th – 13th June)will blast off into space this June after a hit run at the Edinburgh Fringe. This delightful Olivier Award-nominated show, based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved tale of star-crossed aliens, takes young audiences on an adventure filled with lessons on acceptance, understanding, friendship, and challenging stereotypes.

Julia Donaldson says: ‘I loved the show–the brilliantly alien set and lighting, the energetic acting and the wonderful puppets. My favourite was the Lurgle!’

For our adult audiences, we’ve got some fantastic theatre lined up. First up, award-winning writer-performer Joe Sellman-Leava brings Fanboy (23rd May), a hilarious yet heartfelt exploration of pop culture and nostalgia, asking why his generation is so obsessed with their childhoods. Then Buff (29th May) takes to the stage – a funny yet poignant solo performance tackling body image pressures, social media jealousy, and one man’s journey to self-acceptance in the toxic world of online dating. Finally, prepare for some bonkers creativity with ShakeItUp Theatre’s improvised Shakespeare show (5th June) where the cast will create an entirely new play on stage, using Shakespeare’s language, audience suggestions, and their overactive imagination.

Music lovers, we’ve got you covered too. Daphne’s Flight (21st May) will leave you moved with their unique blend of vocals as they tour their new album,Favourable Light, and Talon (22nd May) will charm you with their four-part vocal harmonies and laid-back banter. For a bigger night out, The Stereotonics (30th May) will deliver a tribute to the Stereophonics, using the same guitars, same clothes and even the same (very expensive) amp as the original band. And if you want to dance the night away, don’t miss Tina Live (24th May), a vibrant tribute to the legendary Tina Turner, packed with classics like Proud Mary, Nutbush City Limits and Private Dancer.

Comedy fans, get ready for an evening full of laughs! Mostly Comedy (16th May) brings together political satirist Rosie Holt and Olivier Award nominee Arthur Smith for a night of sophisticated humour, hosted by David Ephgrave. Sometimes controversial, always hilarious – Reginald D. Hunter (28th May) will deliver his searingly honest comedy with a special guest lineup sure to stir the crowd.
