Pride Month at The Mill

27 May 2024
in Culture, Entertainment

This June, The Mill Arts Centre is bursting with pride!

Join us on Saturday 15th June as we present a series of engaging, interactive events celebrating LGBTQIA+ identity. Express yourself through the written word in our Playwriting for Pride Workshop (2-5pm), featuring fun exercises, lively discussions, and a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere for all levels of experience. Or for our younger attendees, take part in our Teen Zine Workshop (3-5pm) where you’ll have the chance to create your own mixed-media zine using art, poetry and more! Both workshops will culminate in our free-to-attend Pride Social (5-6pm), where you can look at the work that’s been created and mingle with other members of the local community.

Can’t make the 15th June? No problem! Why not pop along to Laugh Out Proud (22nd June)? This LGBTQIA+ comedy night features the very best in established and upcoming acts from the community on the UK comedy circuit. This night is all about giving acts and audiences alike a fun and friendly place to express themselves, kick back and have a laugh in an inclusive and welcoming comedy club environment. Whether it’s comedy, cabaret, or anything in between – Laugh Out Proud is the queer night out you’re looking for.

We’ve got plenty more comedy in store this month too. Star of 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Have I Got News For You, Kiri Pritchard-McLean (13th June) brings us her joyous and uplifting show Peacock. Featuring sequins, social commentary, and massive laughs from the comedian hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as “the renaissance woman of UK comedy”, it’s sure to be an evening to remember! Plus don’t miss comedic force Pierre Novellie (4th July), known for his sharp wit and hilarious observations, as he brings his own sellout show to Banbury.

Music enthusiasts are also in for a treat this month, as we present a line-up of killer tributes that are sure to hit all the right notes. Whether it’s top-drawer musicianship in The Beatles Years & Beyond (6th June), or retro fun in Cilla & The Swinging 60s Show (8th June), there’s something for everyone to enjoy. And don’t miss the breathtaking Piaf (20th June), a theatrical homage that celebrates the life and music of France’s greatest musical icon Edith Piaf. With Christine Bovill’s remarkable voice and poignant storytelling, this tale of triumph over tragedy will leave you spellbound.

“Something that will stay with you for the rest of your life” Sunday Times

“If you love music, and you want to experience something extraordinary, then run, fly, race to book your ticket immediately.” Edinburgh Festival Magazine

Or for something a little different, come along to A Midsummer Night’s Dream & Twelfth Night: A Comedy Shakespeare Double Bill (5th July) for the chance to see two of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies as you’ve never seen them before! In just 40 minutes each, Four Forty Theatre distil these classics into an unforgettable night of laughter with a British seaside twist.
