Hair Removal

Waxing can be taxing, but shaving isn’t time-saving in the long run, which is why it’s important to find the perfect method of hair removal for your needs.

Waxing Hair Removal

Pros: Waxing is an efficient way to remove hair as it takes it right from the root meaning the results can last up to six weeks. It’s perfect for those times where you haven’t kept on top of your hair removal, as it can clear large areas in a matter of minutes. Another benefit is that the hairs grow back finer and sparser, the more you wax, which is a common observation in dermatology studies.

Cons: Waxing can be painful, particularly for first-timers or individuals with sensitive skin. Professional waxing can be expensive over time, and even at-home waxing kits can add up in cost, especially for body hair. Waxing can cause redness, irritation, and in some cases allergic reactions, particularly in sensitive areas like pubic hair. There is a risk of developing ingrown hairs, which can be painful and lead to infection if not treated properly.

Shaving Hair Removal

Pros: Anyone who has reached for the razor before a hot date knows that shaving is a super affordable and quick way to rid yourself of unwanted hair. In fact, within minutes you can have silky smooth skin and you don’t need to wait for the hair to grow to a certain length before you shave next time.

Cons: The downside of shaving is that the results don’t last long, and when it does grow back the blunt tips of the hair create a stubbly sensation. Also, cuts and nicks are always a risk with razors, along with the potential for unsightly and sore razor burn.

Laser Hair Removal

ProsLaser hair removal is a popular long-term hair reduction method that uses concentrated light to target hair follicles and remove unwanted hair. Each laser pulse takes a fraction of a second and can treat many hairs simultaneously. Small areas such as the upper lip can be treated in minutes, while larger areas like the back or legs can take about an hour. Most importantly, Laser hair removal can result in permanent hair reduction after a series of treatments, significantly reducing the need for other hair removal methods.

Cons: It can be expensive, especially since multiple sessions are typically required for optimal results. Some people may experience temporary side effects such as redness, swelling and discomfort. Rarely, more severe reactions like blistering, scarring, or changes in skin pigmentation can occur. It is also not effective on all skin types; in fact, light skin and dark hair is the most effective combination, whereas other skin tones and hair shades can have mixed results, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.
