Gardener’s Diary for June 25

As summer arrives in my gardener’s diary June 25 edition at Farnborough Garden Centre. We can start to enjoy the fruits of their labour with most of the heavy gardening tasks completed. Despite this, be vigilant of potential late frosts early in June that could damage tender plants

June, featuring the longest day of the year, is often referred to as the ‘Flower Garden’ month. Expect a stunning display from roses, herbaceous plants, summer bedding, and patio plants. However, with the beauty of blooms comes the rapid growth of weeds and grass, requiring frequent weeding and mowing.

Monthly Gardening Tips:

Roses: Monitor for pests and diseases, and treat as necessary using safe, approved chemicals or organic and biological controls. Regularly dead-head spent flowers to encourage new growth.

Trees & Shrubs: Prune deciduous shrubs post-flowering to maintain shape and promote future blooms. For new plantings, especially in containers, ensure frequent and ample watering to establish roots, crucial for their survival and growth.

Patio Pots & Hanging Baskets: Now is the ideal time to plant vibrant pots, tubs, and baskets, available alongside a wide range of containers at our garden centre.

Water Gardens: Stock or restock your pond with plants and aquatic life. We offer a variety of water plants and creatures, as well as necessary planting equipment and treatments.

Vegetables: Continue planting a variety of vegetables outdoors. Those short on space can integrate vegetables into flowerbeds or containers. A selection of greenhouse-suitable vegetables is also available, perfect for under-glass growing.

Plants to Admire This June: Enjoy the vibrant displays of Viburnum, Lavender, Roses, Clematis, and more. It’s a fantastic time to appreciate the beauty of your garden and perhaps enhance it further with additions from our well-stocked nursery.

We invite you to visit Farnborough Garden Centre not only for gardening needs but also to enjoy a refreshing farmhouse ice cream or a hot drink and explore our collection of collector’s teddies in the Treasured Teddies shop.

We look forward to seeing you and helping you make the most of your garden!
