10 Most Streamed TV Shows & Movies

From festival buzz to franchise favourites, here’s what captivated streaming audiences across the United Kingdom.

As 2025 reaches its halfway mark, UK streaming viewers have spoken – or rather, clicked. JustWatch, the world’s largest streaming guide, has released its official UK Streaming Charts for the first half of the year, offering a telling snapshot of national viewing habits from January to June.

Across Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, ITV+, and more, British audiences engaged with a broad spectrum of stories — from taut political thrillers and emotional indie dramas to blockbuster prequels and high-concept TV.

Top Movies on Streaming in 2025

     1.       Conclave (Prime)

A shadowy Vatican thriller where secrets, power, and betrayal converge behind closed doors.

     2.       Anora (Sky)

An intimate, darkly funny story of a Brooklyn sex worker navigating unexpected love and personal transformation.

     3.       A Real Pain (Disney+)

Jesse Eisenberg’s offbeat dramedy follows two estranged cousins on a bittersweet Holocaust heritage tour across Eastern Europe.

     4.       The Substance (Mubi)

A provocative body-horror allegory starring Demi Moore, exploring age, fame, and female identity through a sci-fi lens.

     5.       Flow (Mubi)

A breathtaking, dialogue-free animated feature told entirely from the perspective of a cat surviving a flood-stricken world.

     6.       Heretic (Prime)

A psychological horror about two missionaries trapped by a mysterious woman who forces them to confront their faith.

     7.       Civil War (Prime)

Alex Garland’s dystopian action-drama imagines a near-future America plunged into internal conflict and journalistic peril.

     8.       Mufasa: The Lion King (Disney+)

This epic prequel explores the untold origin story of Simba’s father, blending nostalgia with rich new lore.

     9.       The Gorge (Apple TV+)

An adrenaline-charged romantic thriller about two assassins caught between duty and desire in a world of chaos.

     10.     A Complete Unknown (Disney+)

James Mangold’s biopic casts Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan in his Greenwich Village heyday, tracing the birth of a legend.

Hottest TV Series on Streaming in 2025

     1.       Adolescence (Netflix)

A raw, emotionally charged portrait of modern teenage life, blending realism with lyrical storytelling.

     2.       Severance (Apple TV+)

The unnerving corporate thriller returns, deepening its twisted vision of work-life separation and fractured identity.

     3.       The White Lotus (Max)

Season 3 shifts to Thailand, with another elite ensemble unraveling in paradise under Mike White’s razor-sharp satire.

     4.       The Last of Us (Max)

The acclaimed post-apocalyptic drama continues its emotional journey through ruin, resilience, and reluctant fatherhood.

     5.       Squid Game (Netflix)

New rounds, higher stakes — the global sensation is back with more psychological twists and social commentary.

     6.       MobLand (Paramount+)

A gritty UK crime saga following rival families, loyalty, and power in a modern-day underworld.

     7.       The Rookie (Now)

The long-running police procedural remains a fan favourite, balancing action, humour, and heart.

     8.       The Day of the Jackal (Now)

A sleek, contemporary reimagining of the classic assassin thriller with geopolitical urgency and style.

     9.       Paradise (Disney+)

A glossy, surreal mystery set on a luxury island resort where nothing is quite what it seems.

10.          A Thousand Blows (Disney+)

Steven Knight’s period boxing drama explores class, race, and survival in Victorian London’s underground fight scene.

While American prestige television still dominates much of the global conversation, this year’s UK chart shows a more diverse and homegrown lean. Shows like Adolescence and The Day of the Jackal prove the British appetite for complex, character-led storytelling remains strong. Meanwhile, films like Anora and A Real Pain signal a post-awards curiosity among viewers for nuanced, intimate cinema.

Disney+ had a particularly strong showing, placing both Mufasa and A Thousand Blows in the top 10 across film and TV. This suggests its push beyond animation into prestige drama is paying off.

Perhaps most telling is Conclave’s unexpected reign at the top. In a world saturated with fantasy and superheroes, it’s a sober, cerebral thriller about power and secrecy that led the nation’s film viewing. That says something about the current cultural moment and the evolving taste of streaming audiences.

As streaming continues to redefine the entertainment landscape, these charts provide more than just a tally; they tell a story about what resonates, what surprises, and what we, as viewers, crave.

Stay tuned for the second half of 2025, which promises even more to binge, discuss, and debate.
