Gardener’s Diary October 25

Can you believe it’s already October? As we bid adieu to the warm embrace of summer, we’re greeted by the crisp charm of autumn. Those cool evenings are sneaking in, but fingers crossed, we might still get a few of those delightful ‘Indian Summer’ days. But let’s be real, we’re secretly hoping for some rain, aren’t we?

Now, let’s talk plants. Those summer blooms? They’ve had their moment in the sun (literally). Time to give them a break and usher in the vibrant hues of Autumn/Winter bedding plants. They’ll keep your garden looking fresh and lively right through those chilly months. And speaking of planning ahead, now’s the perfect moment to get those Spring-flowering bulbs in the ground. Trust me, a bit of foresight now will make your garden the talk of the town come spring. And if you’re looking for variety, Farnborough Garden Centre has got you covered!

Quick October To-Dos:

Fruits & Veggies: Harvest those apples and pears before Jack Frost gets to them! And if you’re dreaming of homegrown fruits next year, consider planting some fruit bushes and trees.

Flower Power: Freshen up your flower beds, divide those crowded plants, and get those dahlias to safety. And hey, why not add some pansies and wallflowers for a splash of winter colour?

Bulb Alert: Protect your Canna lilies from the frost and keep planting those Spring-flowering bulbs. Maybe even experiment with some unique varieties this year!

Container Cleanup: Swap out that summer bedding in your pots with autumn/winter plants. Pro tip: Add some bulbs underneath for a spring surprise!

Bird Buddies: Keep those feeders full and waters topped up. The birds will thank you, and Farnborough Garden Centre has some nifty feeders to check out.

Spotlight on Plants: This month, keep an eye out for the stunning Japanese Acers, Rhus Typhina, and the vibrant hues of Herbaceous Anemone and Autumn Crocus.

Over at Farnborough Garden Centre, we’re shifting gears. Less watering, more prepping for the colder months. And guess what? We’re always adding to our collection, from plants to pottery and even some adorable “Treasured Teddies” for the collectors out there.

So, here’s to a fabulous Autumn! Happy gardening, and see you soon at Farnborough Garden Centre!
