Gardener’s Diary September 25

As summer gently bows out and autumn takes the stage, we’re soaking up those warm, misty mornings. Nature’s starting to slow down, but gardeners know there’s still plenty to do before winter settles in.

Perennials:
Time to get snippy with those tender perennials like fuchsias, geraniums, and argyranthemums. Snag some cuttings early so they can root before it gets chilly. Keep dead-heading those flowers to extend their show-stopping blooms. New container-grown perennials are ready to root in the warm, moist soil, and we’ve got plenty to choose from!

Water Gardens:
Feeling congested? So are your water plants! Thin them out, divide what you love, and net your ponds to keep sneaky leaves from diving in and causing chaos.

Pots and Containers:
Your container plants still have some pizzazz left! Keep dead-heading and give them a splash of liquid fertiliser. We’ve got sizzling deals on summer bedding and pots this month, so why not plant a few more?

Lawns:
Thinking of lush green grass? September’s perfect for sowing seeds or laying turf. Just remember to keep those new lawns hydrated. Start your autumn lawn care with scarifying, aeration, and top dressing. We’ve got all the supplies you need to keep your lawn looking fab.

Autumn Bedding Plants:
Freshen up your garden with autumn bedding plants like pansies, violas, and cyclamen. Plant now for colours that’ll dazzle through winter.

Spring Flowering Bulbs:
Dreaming of spring? Plant bulbs like tulips and daffodils now. September’s your last chance to plant hyacinths if you want them blooming for Christmas!

Garden Birds:
Entice feathered friends with autumn treats. We have a buffet of bird food and feeders ready for you.

Plants Looking Good Now:
Check out the late-flowering honeysuckle, solidago, sedums, and more—all looking their best!

Swing by Farnborough Garden Centre to browse our trees, shrubs, and seasonal gifts. Don’t forget to check out our cuddly and collectable teddy bears! While you’re here, treat yourself to a Farmhouse Ice Cream or a cosy coffee with cake on a warm autumn day. We can’t wait to see you!
