Banbury Pub Wins National ‘Venue of the Year’ Award

Banbury Venue of the Year

The White Horse on North Bar Street has been named Business Buzz’s Venue of the Year 2025, and the Banbury community couldn’t be prouder.

Known for its welcoming atmosphere, top-quality ales and commitment to the community, The White Horse has been recognised as the UK’s top Business Buzz venue at a national awards ceremony held at Mitchell Hall in Cranfield on 27 November.

Landlords Ken and Eileen Thompson, along with bar managers Loulabelle Hamilton and Louise French, closed the pub for the evening to attend the event and were thrilled to bring home the trophy, beating 59 other venues from across the country.

More than just a pub

Since taking over the White Horse in 2015, Ken and Eileen have worked hard to turn the pub into something more than just a place for a pint – it’s now a real community hub, hosting everything from knitting groups and business events to charity fundraisers and music nights.

Regulars know it for its warm welcome and exceptional service, but it’s also earned national recognition for its real ales, cellar quality, and award-winning courtyard garden.

“This award means the world to us,” said Ken Thompson.

“We’ve always focused on what really matters, creating a space where people feel at home, where the beer is great and the community comes together.

“We’re so proud and grateful to see that recognised.”

Why it stood out

The judges praised The White Horse for its personal touches, community focus, and sense of character, including quirky details like the post-it notes in the bathrooms, china mugs for morning meetings, and a cheery smile for every guest who walks in.

“People say it feels like a village pub in the middle of town, and that’s exactly why it won,” said Simon George, Co-Founder of Business Buzz.

“Business Buzz was founded on the idea that pubs and cafés are the beating heart of the community, and The White Horse embodies that perfectly. It’s warm, quirky, welcoming, and run by people who genuinely care. A very deserving winner.”

Home of Banbury Buzz

The White Horse is also the proud home of Banbury Buzz, a monthly networking event for local businesses, freelancers and professionals. Hosted by Lisa-Marie Mallier, Banbury Buzz runs on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 10am – offering relaxed, friendly networking with no membership required.

“The White Horse team are incredible,” said Lisa-Marie, Banbury Buzz Host and Managing Director of No Fluff Communications.

“They help us make every Buzz event welcoming, inclusive and fun. Whether it’s a summer tiki theme, mocktails, or supporting local charities, they always go above and beyond.”

Proudly supported by local sponsors

Banbury Buzz is proudly sponsored by: Read This Magazine – free local magazine for North Oxfordshire, online and in print, Unexplored Films – independent video production company based in Banbury and Zakia Khalid – Freelance Solicitor – Legal support and Debt Recovery Training with a personal touch.
