The Easter break has once again proven to be a pivotal moment for streaming audiences in the UK, with viewers flocking to both returning favourites and fresh debuts. According to the latest JustWatch Streaming Charts, the past month has been defined by a mix of emotional farewells, high-profile premieres, and a surge of new titles breaking into the top tier.

A Tale of Two Charts: Film and TV Domination

While the TV rankings saw fierce competition, the film side delivered a standout moment: One Battle After Another not only claimed Best Picture at the Oscars, but also secured the #1 streaming spot in the UK—a rare double victory that highlights the growing overlap between critical acclaim and streaming success.

On the television front, Outlander returned with its highly anticipated eighth and final season, immediately taking the #1 position. The long-running historical drama continues to command a loyal fanbase, and its farewell season is clearly resonating with audiences.

Emotional Farewell for Outlander

Speaking with JustWatch in an exclusive interview, stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe reflected on the emotional weight of the final season.

Heughan teased the emotional journey ahead for fans: “You’re going to cry, you’re going to laugh, you’re going to be elated but probably not depressed.”

He also emphasised the importance of delivering a satisfying conclusion. “It serves the story, the characters, and the fans.”

Balfe echoed the sentiment, revealing just how emotional filming became: “It was very, very emotional, and it felt very special and real.”

With the cast and crew fully aware they were closing a chapter, the final season promises a deeply personal and memorable send-off.

New Entries Shake Up the Top 10

Beyond returning giants, April’s chart reflects a strong showing from new and debut series. Several titles made an immediate impact, signalling a healthy appetite for fresh storytelling:

  • A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (#4)
  • Young Sherlock (#5)
  • Rooster (#7)
  • Scarpetta (#8)
  • Small Prophets (#9)

Meanwhile, Last One Laughing made a notable leap into the rankings at #6, adding a comedic edge to an otherwise drama-heavy chart.

What’s Coming (and Leaving) After Easter

As the post-Easter period unfolds, the streaming landscape shows no signs of slowing down. Several major releases are set to reshape the charts in the coming weeks:

  • The Boys returns for its final season (S5) on April 8
  • Hacks (Emmy-winning) premieres its new season on April 9
  • Euphoria finally returns with Season 3 on April 13
  • Beef Season 2 lands on Netflix, alongside a new animated series set in the Stranger Things universe

A Seasonal Snapshot

The Easter viewing window often serves as a bellwether for broader streaming trends, and this year is no exception. Established hits like Outlander continue to dominate through emotional storytelling and fan loyalty, while a wave of new titles proves audiences are just as eager to discover the next big thing.

As spring progresses, the balance between endings and beginnings—final seasons and fresh debuts—will likely define the next chapter of the UK streaming charts.
