The Ambiguous Journey of Margot Robbie

At 33, Margot Robbie ponders if her stellar career is tilting downwards. Yet, the buzz around her recent portrayal in the Barbie movie suggests she’s still a reigning queen of the box office.

Career Anxieties: Universal Yet Surprising

It’s commonplace for individuals, regardless of their profession, to grapple with insecurities about their capabilities and future prospects. Such apprehensions are relatable when faced personally or by someone we know intimately. But, a twinge of astonishment hits when the concerned individual is a celebrated star.

One might wonder, how can someone who seemingly has it all be anxious about potentially losing everything?

Margot Robbie candidly shares, “Like many actors, I require continuous affirmation of my talent and relevance. Stagnancy equals regression for me. There have been times when I felt the ominous shadow of a career decline. I’m determined to prevent such a scenario at any cost.”

A Tapestry of Performances

Robbie isn’t just recognised for her roles in mainstream movies. Her act in indie films has garnered much acclaim. Particularly noteworthy is her portrayal of Tonya Harding in the 2018 biopic-mockumentary, I, Tonya. This performance fetched her nominations from esteemed bodies like the Academy Awards, BAFTA, Golden Globes, and Screen Actors Guild.

Her subsequent roles in films like Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Babylon continued to draw applause from industry stalwarts.

Hollywood Nostalgia through ‘Babylon’

Robbie reminisces about the golden days of Hollywood while discussing Babylon. “It symbolised a time of newfound vigour and drive post-War. Success was celebrated, not frowned upon. The era echoed the sentiment of aspiration and deserving rewards. However, our generation is more in tune with the nuances of this belief.”

Behind The Scenes: Robbie’s Ventures

Beyond her on-screen charisma, Robbie wears multiple hats. Married to Tom Ackerley since 2016, she co-founded the production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, with him and other collaborators. This venture is credited with producing hits like I, Tonya, Promising Young Woman, Dollface, and Maid. The latest feather in their cap being the films Boston Strangler and, prominently, Barbie.

Bringing ‘Barbie’ to Life

Barbie, an enduring icon since 1959, resonates with generations. At Barbie’s advanced age, Robbie and director Greta Gerwig embarked on the challenge to translate this beloved figure to the silver screen.

Robbie effuses, “Every little girl envisions herself as Barbie. Fulfilling this dream for them is an unparalleled joy. The weight of this responsibility meant choosing the right director was crucial. We were elated when Greta agreed.”

Iconic Roles and What Lies Ahead

Margot Robbie’s filmography boasts of captivating roles from Suicide Squad to Birds of Prey. While it’s uncertain if Barbie will outstrip her earlier successes financially, it surely is one of her most defining ventures.

In the vast realm of Hollywood, Margot Robbie’s journey serves as an inspiration, showcasing that even the brightest stars have their insecurities. Yet, it’s their resilience and passion that continually light up the cinematic sky.
