It’s a big year for Avocet Theatre Company who are staging two well known winter-themed musicals right here in Banbury! Nearly forty young performers are set to cast a spell on audiences this Easter when they stage Disney’s Frozen the Musical Jr, before the Banbury based group launch their exciting December production – Nativity the Musical – in which you could be involved!

The award-winning theatre group, known for its captivating performances, is kicking off their 2024 season by transporting spectators to the magical kingdom of Arendelle for Frozen the Musical Jr. This beloved tale is filled with the incredible music from the Disney film, and brings to life the beloved characters of Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven as they embark on a magical journey. The show promises to be visually stunning, with the team incorporating a range of technical and performance techniques to recreate the iconic world of Elsa’s ice powers.

But that’s not all! Following Frozen, Avocet Theatre Company is seeking adults and children aged 8+ to join them on stage for their Christmas themed production, Nativity the Musical! Based on the popular festive film starring Martin Freeman, Ashley Jensen, Alan Carr and Pam Ferris the musical version of the film brings a selection of incredible songs to the iconic and hilarious story. To kick off the excitement, ATC will host a Presentation Evening at the end of the month where those interested in treading the boards can attend to hear their vision for the show and discover how to get involved in this festive extravaganza!

Avocet Theatre Company, a registered charity and a prominent force in Banbury’s theatrical scene, has a rich history of delivering outstanding productions. Renowned for its dedication to the arts, this group of volunteers has won multiple awards and seen a number of their members go on to perform and train professionally. The group has successfully staged multiple hit musicals, as well as popular pantomimes which have become the largest in the local area. Their recent triumph, TheatreFest Banbury, showcased the variety of theatre on offer as they staged multiple productions over the course of a week, including a variety show, a comedy play, a SEND theatre workshop and Six the Musical.

Ben Coleman, Chairman of Avocet Theatre Company and Director of ATC’s 2024 season, expressed his excitement, stating, “I can’t wait for ATC to bring these two incredible musicals to Banbury audiences. Frozen is truly magical and inspiring, and both fans and newcomers of the film version will fall in love with this production.” Ben is also excited at the prospect of welcoming new members for their next production. “Nativity the Musical is such an exciting undertaking. We hope to welcome new members – adults and children – to join us for this full length musical that features a live band. It’s bound to be a popular hit with Banbury audiences this Christmas, and we hope to see anyone looking to tread the boards at our Presentation Evening at the end of April”.

Don’t miss the chance to witness this magical journey unfold and be part of it yourself! Frozen the Musical Jr. will be staged at Wykham Theatre, Wykham Park Academy, Banbury, from 11th to 13th April 2024. Performances begin at 7.30pm with an additional 2.30pm matinee on Saturday 13th April. Tickets are on sale now and are already selling fast. Secure your seats now at www.AvocetTheatre.co.uk/tickets. Information on how to join for Nativity the Musical are also available on the ATC website or at the Presentation Evening on Tuesday 30th April 2024, from 7.15pm to 9.15pm at Christopher Rawlins Primary School in Adderbury.
