Although many people know that we here at Banbury Windows and Conservatories do Conservatories (obviously)! Not everyone knows that we also just do conservatory roof replacements, removing old worn out and often leaking roofs with brand new, polycarbonate, glass or warm roofs. In this write-up, we will walk you through the different types that are on offer so that you can make a better-informed decision as to replacing yours.
What Is A Conservatory Roof?
In its simplest form, a conservatory roof is a covering over the frames and base of a conservatory. This is made up of a system of self-supporting bars with either a glazing material inserted (polycarbonate or glass) or a solid roof system laid over the top. Your roof is an integral part of your conservatory deciding how much you can use it during the year and what you use it for.
Polycarbonate
This is the most common glazing type for conservatories providing protection from the elements whilst also looking smart and can last up to and above ten years. This makes it a very cost-effective solution however it does have some drawbacks. Polycarbonate is opaque so you will be unable to see out of it, it also does not have great thermal performance so on hot days it can cause your conservatory to heat up, to uncomfortable temperatures and the opposite happens in cold temperatures. If you are looking for the most economical glazing solution, then Polycarbonate is the way to go for your new conservatory.
Glass Roof
The most conventional style of roof, glass offers a whole host of benefits. From great thermal performance (with some glass reflecting upwards of 90% of solar heat) and a wide range of colour and style options available. Glass also allows more light into your conservatory brightening up the space and making the area seem bigger.
Glass Roof Living Rooms
Although not a replacement roof, it would be a shame not to mention the living room. This is essentially a glass roof conservatory, with some key additions that make it seem more homely and less like a room separate to the main body of the house. With brick/stone piers and internally plastered pelmet this style holds all the benefits of a glass roof conservatory and an extension with very little of the drawbacks. With many customisation options such as electrics, heating, and lighting that we can provide in-house, this new conservatory might be the choice for you.
Warm Roof
Although it’s the costliest option a warm roof can really make a conservatory feel like part of the home, with excellent insulation value and an eye-catching look, this could be the style for you. Unlike the other roofs, this does not suffer from overheating in summer or bitter temperatures in winter and with the options of either Velux roof lights or glass panels there is no need to compromise on the amount of light entering your room. Again, this style comes with plenty of customisation options, such as different roofing materials, to either match or contrast your home’s current style.
