Before flying to Freetown, I sent funds so they could prepare the foundation trenches and produce a first batch of concrete blocks for the teachers hostel, so they will be ready to start building when I arrive. The building measures 40 x 20 feet plus it will have a veranda. There are 7 single bedrooms, a sitting room plus a male and a female washroom and toilet. As you can see the concreting of the foundation trenches was completed when I arrived.
Below – the foundations are well on their way and they were completed by the end of day two, great progress given that there are only six workers and everything is done manually.
The photo above was taken on the morning I left Freetown last Wednesday and the one below was sent to me yesterday – fantastic progress in just TWO weeks!
All the windows and doors have been purchased and delivered to site and all the internal walls are completed so roofing the hostel will be the next phase. There are still some funds available “in country”, but if the guys continue to progress at the current rate, they are building faster than I am raising funds, so there may be a slight delay before we are able to concrete the floors and start the rendering, plastering and painting. I do have some funds due in from Banbury Rotary Club’s Children Singing for Children concerts and this will offset the potential shortfall and of course Santa may deliver a Christmas surprise or two!!
