We have already taken delivery of our Christmas trees and have a reputation for good quality trees at affordable prices which sell out quickly. Call in and choose your tree, pay for it and we will reserve it until you are ready to collect. This way you will not be disappointed.

Decorating your home:

Just before taking your Christmas tree indoors cut off two inches from the bottom of the main stem, then position and secure the tree inside in a water holding stand, away from radiators and open fires. Add some water to the stand then gently remove netting from bottom to top.  Use the evergreen foliage from your garden to decorate your home. Cut berried holly for vases, and use laurel, eucalyptus, euonymus and ivy in wreaths or table decorations. A jar or vase with cones, baubles and lights inside makes an attractive table centrepiece. We have battery operated and low voltage electric lights which use very little electricity, choose either bright white or warm white coloured bulb options.

We can make you a holly or spruce wreath or table decoration just call in choose your fruits, nuts, and ribbon, place your order, then collect your custom-made wreath on your chosen date.

Planting & Pruning

Cut down any dead autumn flowering perennials. Prune autumn fruiting raspberries. Winter prune apple and pear trees applying a pruning compound to stop disease getting into the cut. Transplant any existing shrubs and conifers you may need to move in your garden. 2023 seed ranges are now in stock, sow broad bean aquadulce and sweet pea seed under glass.

Garden Maintenance

Stop your outside tap freezing by wrapping it up and drain hosepipes of water. Protect tender plants or camellia buds with fleece as it protects whilst allowing the plants to breathe. Raise pots off the floor with either pot feet or bricks which allows the air to circulate around the pot. Clear pathways and decking of moss, lichen and leaves, to avoid slip hazards. Dig over your vegetable plot and add composted farmyard manure and mulch borders with a fresh layer of chipped bark.

Sharpen blades on secateurs, loppers, hoes and other garden tools and wipe with an oily rag before packing away.

Birds

Make sure a fresh supply of water is always available and increase the feeding of high fat foods such as suet treats. Top up peanuts, seeds and mealworm feeders.

Lawns

Keep off  lawns when they are frosty to avoid damage. Aerate waterlogged areas with a garden fork.

Plants of interest this Month

Poinsettia: Every living room should have one! This plant simply shouts Christmas the traditional red bract variety is still by far the best.

Planted Hyacinth Arrangements: We have a good selection of bowls and containers that are planted with prepared hyacinths for Christmas flowering.

Orchids, Cyclamen and Amaryllis are also popular as flowering houseplants.

Topiary Buxus Pyramid & Balls: These make ideal statements by your entrance door and decorating them with tasteful white lights takes them to that extra level.

Camellia: The most popular gift line in shrubs is by far the Camellia.
