Since 2007, Banbury Rotarian, Alan Wolstencroft, has been working on a schools project in Sierra Leone, developing links with six communities in the West African country, while raising more than £247,000.
Alan’s Africa is a community project in Sierra Leone managed by Alan Wolstonecroft in conjunction with The Rotary Club of Banbury. The main project involves the building of educational facilities namely the Westminster International Community School.
The current progress report reveals that the rendering is complete, the windows & doors have been fitted, and the floors concreted. They are currently fixing the ceilings and are also starting to make all the classroom furniture. In the photo below you can see the toilet block is also progressing.
The trenches for the second block of 2 classrooms have been dug & the concreting has been completed.
A campaign has been commenced in the local community for the registration of children for the 2023/24 academic year and they are in the process of applying to register the school with the Ministry of Education. A free Summer School is being organised, running through August, to promote the school opening in September. A school uniform has been chosen and “Making a Real Difference” has been chosen as the school motto.
