Bafta 2024 Nominations

Bafta 2024 Nominations Feature

Amid Award Season, we have just had the announcement of the nominations of the Bafta 2024 Nominations, set to be televised on February 18th at the London Royal Festival Hall.

Oppenheimer leads the event with 18 nominations. The epic biopic of Robert Oppenheimer famously blasted the box office and is now dominating the award season, having garnered Nolan his first Golden Globe. Now, we can only hope that the director of The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception and Dunkirk will take Best Director for the first time at the BAFTAs as well.

Murphy also hopes for success after receiving his first-ever BAFTA nomination (and about time too) for his career-best performance in portraying the titular Oppenheimer, whilst his co-stars, Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr., have also received nominations.

Bafta 2024 Nominations

Not too far behind is Poor Things where Emma Stone, having already won at the Globes and Critics’ Choice for her hypnotic performance, hopes for gold on British soil as well (she already had the accent down for a start).

Barbie, Oppenheimer’s rival in the 2023 sensation, Barbenhiemer, found itself on the shelf for Best Film and Director. In total, it only received five nominations, including a well-deserved nomination for Ryan Gosling. For me, the worst of the snubs was Lily Gladstone and her exceptional performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, even after achieving a historic victory at the Globes. The historical crime drama from Martin Scorsese received an otherwise impressive total of nine nods in the Bafta 2024 nominations.
