Katharine House Hospice Open Gardens 2024

Outdoor lovers are being invited to look around a host of private gardens after Katharine House’s popular Open Gardens scheme returned for 2024.

As part of Open Gardens, this year sponsored by Graf UK, residents in local towns and villages open their gardens to the public to raise money for Katharine House.

Each year hundreds of visitors enjoy a stroll around beautiful gardens in the local area, enjoying sights such as arboretums, water features, floral borders, orchards, plantings and a whole host more.

First on the calendar is The Old Vicarage, Adderbury set in 16 acres of beautiful countryside on the outskirts of Adderbury, The Old Vicarage has large front and back gardens, a walled vegetable garden, an arboretum with a lake and pond, and two large meadows bounded by a brook as well as trees from three continents.

Numerous plants trees and shrubs are being given away, with winners of a competition given first choice. And new to Open Gardens for 2024 is the KHH raffle with fantastic prizes, plus a scavenger hunt for the kids.

Christine and Sir Peter Job, owners of The Old Vicarage, said: “We have been building our garden and arboretum over nearly 30 years to our great pleasure, which we are happy to share with others, especially under the banner of an important cause such as the Katharine House Hospice.”

The Open Gardens scheme has been a huge success over the years, raising tens of thousands of pounds for our patients and their families as well as the upkeep of our own beautiful garden here at Katharine House.

Other locations taking part in the Open Gardens scheme this year include Middleton Cheney, Culworth, Chipping Norton, Broughton Grange, South Newington, and Katharine House’s very own hospice.

Community Engagement Manager for KHH Roseann Thompson said: “The Open Gardens for Katharine House has given a vast amount of pleasure to thousands of people over the years and are also a great opportunity for people to show off their gardening handywork!”

“We are so grateful to our supporters who are generously opening their gardens to the public to raise money for Katharine House. looking forward to seeing how the gardens have developed over the last year, and being introduced to new ones too.”

Katharine House provides specialist palliative care for adults with life-limiting conditions across North Oxfordshire and South Northamptonshire, relying on generous donations from local businesses and its local community.

There is still time for keen gardeners to sign up to the scheme. Visit our website at khh.org.uk/gardens for more information.
