The roof is almost complete and now they will fit the ceilings, concrete the floors, render the blockwork throughout, paint and make the desk and bench sets, ready for the new term. We built the school so that children had a school in the community and didn’t have to walk up to 5 miles each way to attend a free government school. We introduced a nominal termly fee to cover the cost of paying the teachers’ salaries, but a lot of parents, especially those with more than one child at the school, were struggling to pay the fees and were contemplating withdrawing their children and returning them to the government school. As a result, I decided to scrap the fees, but am pleased to announce that I have found sponsors to pay the salaries for the nine members of staff. I would like to acknowledge the great support from the sponsors, (2 companies and an individual) you know who you are and I greatly appreciate your donations which help me continue to “Make A Real Difference”.
Sponsored walk – Sunday, July 28th
The hottest day of the year so far, just my luck!! Accompanied by Daniel, a 13-year-old, who volunteers for me for his Duke of Edinburgh award, we set off, with me aiming to walk 15 miles. After 5.5 miles Daniel bowed out, but as a result of his efforts, he raised
£91 in sponsorship. The sun was blistering, as were my feet, and so at 12 miles I reluctantly called it a day. The Just Giving page has so far has generated £1,300 and with “offline” donations the total currently stands at £2,890. Thanks to everyone that has sponsored me or donated to the project already, BUT, it is never too late to donate!!
