Busted Rocks Trentham

Although 22 years closer to the Year 3000, the popular band Busted were glad to crash that Trentham Live Event on Sunday to rock the stage and celebrate their time in the industry.

Trentham Live Returns with a Stellar Lineup

Trentham Live, Stoke-on-Trent, returned with an incredible lineup of artists in their unique, annual historic lakeside setting for its fourth year.

Opening August 15th with Deacon Blue, while August 16th saw Jess Glynne, and August 17th saw Manic Street Preachers.

Busted Headlines the Final Night

On the final night, the trio of Charlie Simpson, James Bourne and Matt Willis arrived for the epic finale the Estate’s 2024 music events.

The event celebrates over two decades of the English pop-punk band’s time in music, attracting crowds that had grown up with them and the following generation that embraced their 2015 comeback.

A Nostalgic Setlist

The crowds were treated to reruns of their most beloved hits. Re-enactments of their #1 smashes like ‘Crashed The Wedding’, ‘Who’s David’, ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’ and ‘You Said No’ had the spectators bouncing in exhilaration, while the sombre lyrics of their Top 3 single, ‘Sleeping With The Light On’, saw a sea of phone torches lit up.

Busted Brings the Energy

The boys seemed on top form as if the 2000s had never passed. Each heightened the mood and atmosphere with their dissolute air-guitar playing, while Willis added raunch with his provocative humour.

Playful Banter with McFly

The group couldn’t resist a cheeky dig at McFly, who they operated at the same time as. They recalled that the last time they played at Trentham, the All About You group were the opening act before paving the way for Busted.

Matt was full of quips about McFly during the concert. He called their fellow pop band ‘PG’ and stated that being a support act was ‘Where they f***ing belong’.

James later suggested the two bands should have a full-blown scrap, even throwing out the idea that Matt should have a mud wrestle match with Dougie Poytner at the Trentham estate. As much as the irrepressible humour delighted the crowd, they noted that they and the McFly members ‘love’ each other really.

A Touching Moment with the Fans

Despite this bravado, the trio were courteous of their fans. The singers acknowledged that Father Time has inevitably occurred and they and their fans have aged and settled down. One endearing moment involved a couple at the near front of the stage, who held up a sign asking Busted to ‘help with their gender reveal’.

‘We need a drum roll please,’ was Bourne’s response, as he and his fellow guitarists huddled round a big envelope.

After the ominous drum roll from their stellar support drummer, the boys excitedly announced the big news.

‘It’s a boy,’ they shouted, while Charlie admitted the intensity of the reveal was ‘nerve wracking’. ‘That’s the first time we’ve ever done that at a concert!’, he candidly added.

Reflecting on Two Decades of Success

Impossible though it may seem, it’s been twenty years since the Busted trio bounced into the charts with the irrepressible pop-punk energy of their debut single ‘What I Go To School For’ and accrued a list of #1 hits and Top 3 singles that defied a generation. But this night was a sensational, sincere and even spicy evening their impact.

Trentham Live is already excited for next year’s event, with the dates 14th-17th of August already marked.
