2025 Sag Awards

The 2025 SAG Awards ceremony is the last major awards season event ahead of the Oscars, taking place after voting for the latter has closed. It also gives movie lovers the biggest clues so far as to who we can expect to grab gold at Hollywood’s biggest night.

So far, every Best Support Acting Award has been given to Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain) and Zoe Saldana (Emilia Pérez). Thus we can expect to see them on the stage with their respective little gold mania their clutches – that is unless a grand surprise happens.

Demi Moore witnessed a resurgence in her winning streak in the Best Actress race following Mikey Madison’s recent victories at the BAFTAs and Independent Spirit Awards.

Moore used her acceptance speech to look back on first getting her SAG card back in 1978, when she was just shy of 16.

“It changed my life, because it gave me meaning, it gave me purpose, and it gave me direction, because I was a kid on my own who had no blueprint for life,” she said as emotion welled up in her voice.

“And I certainly knew nothing about acting. But I watched, and I listened and I learned from all of you.”

“You have all been my greatest teachers,” she said warmly while looking out at the audience of her peers.

For the male category, Timothée Chalamet pulled a surprise win over usual victor Adrien Brody for his portrayal of one of music’s most recognised artists, Bob Dylan.

“I was not expecting this at all,” Chalamet said. “I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role and how much this means to me. But the truth is it was five-and-a-half years of my life. I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist, Mr. Bob Dylan, a true American hero, and it was the honor of a lifetime playing him.”

Chalamet continued: “The truth is I’m really in pursuit of greatness. People don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats. I’m inspired by the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight. I’m as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. This doesn’t signify that, but it’s a little more fuel, it’s a little more ammo to keep going.”

Never mind ammo or supply of fuel, Chalamet has already exploded. At 29, he is youngest actor to win at SAG.

Elsewhere, Conclave has become a dark horse, scooping the evening’s top prize, as it did at the BAFTAs. It could very well be a contender for Best Picture at the Oscars.
