At this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW), JustWatch was proud to partner with the preeminent pop culture outlet, Den of Geek, to speak exclusively with Hollywood heavyweight Kevin Bacon and executive producer Erik Oleson about their new action supernatural limited series The Bondsman, premiering on Amazon Prime.
The Bondsman is a genre-bending, blood-soaked thriller blending horror, action, and dark comedy in a bold new way.
It follows Fred Herbert (played by Bacon) as a former bounty hunter who dies and makes a deal with a mysterious entity to return to life—but only if he hunts down demonic souls.
The series is created by Grainger David with Erik Oleson serves as executive producer.

JustWatch got the chance to interview Kevin Bacon. A Hollywood icon for decades, Bacon rose to fame with films like Footloose, Tremors, A Few Good Men, and Apollo 13, and continues to be a magnetic screen presence in both blockbuster and indie roles.
His latest turn in The Bondsman adds another bloody, action-packed entry to his diverse career.
“The violence, and the blood, the family story, the music, and the humor were all really attractive to me in this project,” Bacon said.
“It’s fun to be thrown into a situation where you’re covered in blood with a chainsaw and you gotta stick it into some demon’s face. Or fighting a demon cheerleader underwater. It’s a blast.”
Damon Herriman joins the cast as the show’s villain, Lucky. The Australian character actor is perhaps best known for playing Charles Manson in Netflix’s thriller series Mindhunter and again in Quentin Taratino’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood (both in 2019).
“Damon as Lucky is a great bad guy. He’s a chameleon of an actor. Jolene Purdy brought a really interesting point of view and style. Pretty much right away, everybody connected. It really is a great ensemble.”
Erik Oleson was also interviewed. Olseon is the celebrated showrunner and producer best known for Daredevil (Netflix), The Man in the High Castle, and Jack Ryan, discussing the twisting genre expectations of his new show.
He now serves as executive producer of The Bondsman, and promises genre fans will “laugh, cry, or watch a demon get a chainsaw to the face.”
“You don’t know whether you’re going to end the scene laughing, crying or watching a demon get a chainsaw to the face. It’s really going to twist your understanding about what you’ve been watching. Genre fans are not going to be disappointed.
“There’s a terrific supporting cast around Kevin Bacon. His interactions with Beth Grant who plays his mom, Kitty, are just gold! Just watching that chemistry really cranks it up a notch.”
The Bondsman is a wild, genre-bending ride with blood-soaked action, offbeat humor, and unexpectedly heartfelt moments. A must-watch for fans of supernatural thrillers with a twist.
The series is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on April 5 2025.
