Malthouse Kitchen

Over the years I have ended many a night in a pub, but if anyone had told me that one day I would be starting my day off by having breakfast in a brewery I would not have believed them.

It’s not surprising then that when we were given the opportunity to review the breakfast offering at The Malthouse Kitchen, within the Hook Norton Brewery at Hook Norton, we jumped at the chance.

And so it was, a few weeks ago, three of us found ourselves at the brewery at 9.00am, extremely hungry and cracking jokes about how we could now never be accused of not being able to organise a “fry up” in a brewery.

I am pleased to say that we did not do the organising, as that was left in the hands of the wonderfully capable team at the Malthouse Kitchen who met us with big smiles and could not do enough to help us decide what to have from the wide-ranging menu.

As we were starting off with toast, they insisted we try Hooky Gold Marmalade which is made for them locally in Chipping Norton by Maggie incorporating Hooky Gold Beer, this was enjoyed with Cappuccino, Tea, freshly squeezed orange juice, cranberry juice and grapefruit juice.

The main event followed and we were delighted with what came our way, there is something for everyone at the Malthouse Kitchen.

The Vegan Breakfast with roasted red pepper with baked beans, vegan sausage, grilled tomato, mushrooms & toasted English muffin delighted our Vegan diner.

The surprise dish of the morning, Eggs ‘Ndjua, with local spicy ‘ndjua sausage made with Red Rye Beer, with creamy guacamole topped with poached egg & hollandaise. This was delicious, ideal for those looking for a little something different for breakfast.

Pancakes & Bacon, light and fluffy pancakes with local grilled back bacon and real maple syrup.Provides something for those with a sweeter tooth. Being that one in our group, I ate the lot!

Eggs Royale, poached egg, English muffin & hollandaise with Scottish salmon, locally smoked in brick kilns in the Cotswolds was fantastic.

Finally the main event, the Master Brewers Breakfast, old Hooky pork sausages, back bacon, free-range egg, black pudding, hash brown, baked beans, tomato, mushroom & toast. Ideal, for those needing a big start to the day. As it was lunchtime when we finished a pint of Old Hooky could not be missed.

The Malthouse Kitchen is open for breakfast on Monday to Saturday from 8am to 11.30am and on Sunday from 9am to 11.30am.

They also cater for all social occasions, wedding receptions, conferences, business meetings, celebrations and family parties.

Highly recommended!
